90 rare number plates to go under the hammer in Dubai
Limited seats available for September 27 auction
DUBAI – Motorists in Dubai with an eye for prestige will soon have the chance to secure some of the rarest licence plates in the emirate.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is staging its 119th Open Auction this month, with 90 distinctive plates set to be auctioned. Scheduled for Saturday, 27 September 2025, the event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Hotel from 4.30pm.
The highlight of the auction is two “super numbers” – BB 88 and BB 777 – expected to attract competitive bidding. In past auctions, such plates have commanded multi-million-dirham prices. In 2024, for instance, plate AA 16 sold for Dh7.32 million while AA 999 went for Dh4.05 million.
Rare number plates
The 90 plates on offer include two, three, four and five-digit combinations across codes AA, BB, K, L, M, N, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. These plates, prized for their rarity and exclusivity, are anticipated to draw intense interest from collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Registration for the auction opens on Monday, 22 September 2025, through RTA’s website or at Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha. Additional on-site registration will also be available at the auction hall from 2.00pm on the day.
Participation details
To qualify, bidders must hold a traffic file in the Emirate of Dubai and provide a security deposit cheque for Dh25,000 made payable to RTA. A non-refundable registration fee of Dh120 is also required. Payments can be made online, at the centres or via credit card.
Seating at the venue will be limited, with priority given to registered participants. As with previous auctions, a 5% value-added tax will apply to the final sale of each plate.
